Description

When you are retained to deal with family violence in a matter, you face an array of serious, nuanced, and ongoing obligations. The stakes could not be higher, since safety and security can literally be at risk for your clients or others. And your professional obligations exist regardless of which side you represent. Adding to the complexity, there is never a “one-size-fits-all” solution - these matters need to be carefully considered throughout each step of the file.

In this unique program, our presenters engage with you in facilitated group discussions and professional reflective exercises to take you through the best practices they use in these situations. Don't miss this opportunity to join us in-person! You leave with effective strategies to help you manage these important and difficult family violence cases in a safe and successful manner.

  • Learn how to elicit the pertinent information from a client in the initial interview
  • Gain insights on the use of screening tools
  • Understand the importance of individualized safety planning
  • Be aware of the factors you need to consider with the client in developing legal options
This program is Ontario Association for Family Mediators (OAFM) approved for 2.5 hours of annual training requirements toward the annual CPD reporting for Family Violence.
