The Law Society’s Foundations of Sole Practice course provides licensees who are starting out as sole practitioners with a road map to the critical information they need to know. Delivered through 30 hours of online content in a modular format, the course covers practical lessons and advice on areas of practice that are designed to assist licensees to design a client-centered practice and decrease the incidence of complaints, negligence claims, and practice deficiencies.

By focusing on these core aspects, the course is designed to help set licensees up for successful practice and effective client management.

Licensees who declare as sole practitioners at any point in 2025 will have until December 31, 2026, to complete the course.

Starting on January 1, 2026, licensees who declare as sole practitioners after this date until May 31 of that year, will have until the end of the calendar year to complete the course. Licensees who declare as sole practitioners on June 1, 2026, or later, will have until December 31 of the following calendar year to complete the course.
