Public interest in sleep has been growing fast—and for good reason! Sleep is often the most undervalued pillar of health. While we’re constantly flooded with information on diet and exercise, sleep has historically been left out of the conversation. Over the past few years, however, we’ve started to open this important discussion with LSO members. This year, with CPD’s Sleep Well series, we’ll continue to shed light on just how essential sleep is throughout 2025.

While we all know we need sleep to feel and perform at our best, we often trade it for other activities or responsibilities. Whether due to work demands, sleep disorders, lifestyle, stress, ADHD, or even menopause, many people struggle with getting enough rest. The great news is that simple changes can make a big difference. Just as with diet and exercise, we don’t have to aim for perfection. We can feel good about getting out for that 30-minute walk or choosing a healthy meal when we can. The same approach works for sleep: take the pressure off. It doesn’t need to be perfect every night; even small improvements can have a powerful impact on how we feel and function.

If you're not sure your sleep is disrupted or as optimal as it can be, start by taking this short quiz and ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Can I regularly fall asleep within 5 minutes?
  2. Do I fall asleep during meetings, watching TV or while doing boring, sedentary activities?
  3. Do I need an alarm clock to wake up in the morning?
  4. Do I habitually sleep late on weekends?

Believe it or not, answering yes to even one of these questions may be an indication that you may need sleep support or a sleep intervention. Too often, poor sleep is seen as part of life, or a sacrifice we must make for a successful law career—but that simply isn’t true! Making small lifestyle changes will positively impact your well-being and longevity in life, but also the enjoyment of your hard earned career in law. Since sleep is the foundation of our health and wellness, it’s the perfect place to start. The bonus? Having a great night of sleep has immediate benefits and results that you’ll feel right away.

Interested in learning more? Tune in for the 2025 Sleep Well series where we tackle and discuss some of the most important concerns and issues impacting our sleep. From ADHD and menopause, to nutrition, exercise, and sleep at critical growth and development stages throughout our lives. We’ll be wrapping up the series with a live townhall Q&A in December that you won’t want to miss. We hope you enjoy the series and as always, continue sleeping well!
